THE BUDDHIST HERITAGE SEEKS FUNDING
THE BUDDHIST HERITAGE JOURNAL-RN, 86/2032/2001

THE PROJECT

  • The Buddhist heritage is the only Organization in India exploring ancient Buddhist sites with a plan to involve the Government to preserve and restore them as venues of pilgrimage.

  • One of its prime projects is an extensive exploration of sites that have been forgotten / neglected, but still exists till this day. It also publishes a Quarterly Journal and a website:www.bhpromo.org

  • At present it is involve in compiling a comprehensive 'data-base' of places the Buddha had spent in 'rain-retreat'. The work is in a fairly advanced stage. When completed, it will be posted on the website as well as published in print. It will be the most exhaustive record of ancient routes, Viharas and the teachings given by the Blessed One at these sites. Similar compilations will be done on sites in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, South India, Kashmir as well as other parts of India.

  • The Journal also has the most exhaustive library of Digital Visuals on the remains of ancient Buddhist sites in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar etc. In the future it intends to expand its collection.

  • The most important project that it intends to establish is " The Buddhist Archaeological Research Society ". This Institution will promote, build and run a University at Kausambi (the venue where the Buddha spent the 9th rain retreat). This center of higher education will be open to both Foreign and Indian Students / Scholars desiring to conduct research on the Buddhist History / Archaeology of India.

  • At the forgotten sites, the Buddhist Heritage has plans to invite Buddhist Organizations from all over the world to establish Schools, Hospitals, and Vocational Training where ever such facilities do not exist. Sponsors funding these projects, will work indendently as a Society / Trust and will have freedom to establish Meditation Centers, Viharas in the vicinity of the Ancient site as well as impart teachings of the Buddha (according to their tradition) to the people in the surrounding villages. Thereby contributing to the returning Buddhism to India.

WHAT WE ARE SEEKING

  • Financial support from well-wishers for expanding its area of exploration, improving the standard of its Journal and developing "in- house" computer skills for website and 'data-base' development, productions of Videos, Books etc. The intention is to make the project self reliant and able to support itself in the near future.

  • Volunteers willing to help in various fields of work / advice, either from their country or spending 6 months with us in India are welcome.

ABOUT THE BUDDHIST HERITAGE

The Buddhist Heritage Project was started six years ago, as a Non- Profit Organization by an Indian Lay Buddhist Suresh Bhatia, better known as the 'Peace Pilgrim'. Apart from being a qualified authority on the subject of sites related to the life of the Buddha and who saw the need to help in their proper preservation as well as stop the stealing of ancient Buddhist icons. There was also a dire need to bring his exploration to the attention of the Scholars and Pilgrims about the existence of these forgotten sites. The Organization is also registered as a Publication with 'The Registrar of Newspapers', Government of India.

The website has been visited by a great number of people. The appreciation from Monks, Nuns, and Scholars from Universities as well as Lay Buddhist from all over the world has been encouraging. We intend to constantly up-date information and also increase the volume of pages.

Friends, the letter is being sent to you so that you may kindly help by way posting it on the 'Notice Board' of Viharas or letting someone else know about work we are doing. If you know of a person who would be interested to donate to the project or you could help in 'Fund-Raising' we would appreciate your involvement.

If the mail has been sent to a Vihara / Buddhist Organization, we sincerely hope that you will not only contribute your mite to the Project, but also consider in helping to return Buddhism to India and working with the people here.

In return for all the assistance to the Project, we assure you that you will be accumulating an abundance of Merit. Use of all funds will be transparent and will be carefully accounted.
